This is a tough question to answer specifically. I say this because in the end, it will depend largely on how many roaches are living in the structure. For example, if you have 25 or less roaches, one tube of ROACH GEL will be enough. In fact it would be enough to treat several times so you might go through half with the initial treatment and then use the second half 1-2 months later.

This is a tough question to answer specifically. I say this because in the end, it will depend largely on how many roaches are living in the structure. In fact it would be enough to treat several times so you might go through half with the initial treatment and then use the second half 1-2 months later.

But if you have a bad infestation, it could require several tubes of gel to knock the roaches out for good. This partly due to the fact that the more roaches you have locally, the more they’ll eat. Other variables include how long it will take for all of them to be affected, how dispersed the infestation might be, etc.

Now if you decide to spray with some ORTHENE and GENTROL, the same is true. Mild infestations can many times be resolved with 1-2 applications. But when several hundred roaches are nesting in the home, it will no doubt require more material to knock them out.

I recently moved into my apartment and I have small house roaches. I bombed my apartment and I have been seeing roaches on the walls dead on the floor and in the window sills. Are the bombs working or do I need to find something else to get rid of the roaches ? I have a small child and another child on the way. I don’t want them in an infested apartment. Please Help!

If you read through our ROACH CONTROL ARTICLE, you’ll learn that bombing for roaches rarely works. No doubt you’ll kill some as evidenced by the bodies you’ve been finding following the treatment. But as you’ll soon learn, the 2-4% of the population that avoid the treatment will reinfest the property with a vengence and in most cases, they come back worse than ever following the use of total release aerosol bombs.

To avoid this vicious cycle, I suggest you set out some ROACH GEL and ROACH TRAPS. These two products are usually all that is needed. They’re very safe to use (especially compared to a total release aerosol bomb which is spewing chemical needlessly all over your apartment) but more importantly, the Gel is highly effective. Roaches can’t resist the Gel and will quickly consume your offering. The Traps should be placed around the apartment and will be a tool that will alert you to any activity you may have missed or did not know existed. Once a spot is located as active by a Trap, place some gel close to it and you’ll get these guys too. Once the Gel and Traps have been installed, the problem should be resolved in 2-8 weeks depending on how many egg sacs you may or may not have on the property.

Today is my second day using the spray and it works on contact. One day on the way back to my apartment, I saw a roach. Then the next day I looked closer at where I saw the roach and I saw another one, they are coming from the door to the trash shoot. The trash shoot was closed about 2 weeks ago, so we have to take our trash to the dumpster now. So, I bought a Twin Draft Guard for my door. After I put it on I sprayed it with the Raid spray and sprayed the edges of the carpet, the bathroom, kitchen and living area. I notcied when I sprayed the kitchen counter edges and living area walls, a few roaches came out. I have not sprayed the whole apartment yet because I haven’t unpacked everything yet. The question I want to ask is, do I have a serious/bad problem with roaches?

You most definitely have a serious roach problem. Based on your message, it would seem they are active in many locations and will require extensive treatments. At this point I strongly suggest you refrain from spraying and read our ROACH CONTROL ARTICLE. In the article you’ll learn about the ROACH GEL and why it’s the best way to treat when dealing with a problem such as yours. A good baiting program will no doubt solve this problem a lot faster and efficiently but this can only be achieved if you stop spraying. This is mainly because the spray will contaminate the bait but also because the spray tends to “spread” or disperse the roaches. Leaving them as is and then deploying nothing but 1-2 baits will prove easier and more effective by a long shot.

We try to be as clean as humanly possible because of this issue and also because we have a dog. But we are fed up with the returning roaches. Yesterday, we had the pest control guy used gel instead and we are getting our landlord to caulk opens cracks. We have also laid bait traps in all the places we have seen the roaches. My questions are if I wanted to use the bait gel you mentioned, should I wait until the cracks are caulked? And how long does the gel take to start being effective. I know you mentioned in your article that it might a few days to see some dead roaches, but I’ve seen three live ones so far today since the gel and traps went down.

First off, I’d like to say that this site has been the most helpful site I’ve found so far. I only wish I could have found it sooner.
There is no need to wait when wanting to use ROACH GEL. Since roaches feed all the time, the sooner you have some out for them to find the sooner you’ll have acceptance and start seeing dead roaches. And again, as our ROACH CONTROL ARTICLE explains, it will take several days for roaches to die. Even then it doesn’t mean you’ll actually see any dead ones. Most will die hidden somewhere out of sight and since roaches are cannibalistic, many will be consumed by other roaches upon death. This process will leave nothing behind but more roach feces.

I have been a General Manager of many restaurants and have never ran into a roach problem until this position at a fast food establishment I have just accepted. Short of burning the place down is there anything I can do? They have a pest control company come in once a month but this place is infested. I do not take anything inside the building and my family makes me undress in the garage when I come home! I have been getting the employees to clean better so this might help but it is really bad. I won’t even sit in my own office. I did not know it was this bad or I would not of accepted the position. The owner is set in his ways and I can’t get him to switch bug companies. Any advice?

Cockroach problems are commonly found in restaurants. The massive amount of food, the never ending ordeal of keeping everything clean and abundant space for insects to hide and thrive make it a wonder every restaurant doesn’t have an active cockroach population. As our COCKROACH CONTROL ARTICLE explains, getting control of this pest requires patience and this is never more true then in food processing facilities.

Based on the information provided above, it doesn’t sound like you’ll be able to get help from your current service company. When confronted with this scenario, it would seem as though your best course of action will be to either purchase more service or supplement the current initiative. If the company treating now is using bait as their main weapon, get some more baits and add to the selection inside the establishment. As explained in our cockroach control article, making multiple baits available will assure greater acceptance and in the end, both faster and more complete control of the infestation. There are many cockroach baits available these days and though most companies tend to rely on 1 type or brand, using multiple products is always a better approach. A combination of the MAXFORCE MAG, the ADVION GEL and some AVERT is a good combination/mix that we’ve found effective in food processing plants. If your service company is only using one flavor of bait, add variety and that will no doubt help.

If the current program involves mostly if not nothing but spraying, more frequent applications can help. However, it’s almost always best to try and achieve more precise treatments when spraying and the applications don’t seem to be helping. In other words, a good roach clean-out should knock most of the population down and eventually out. DRIONE applied throughout the establishment can obliterate any established population and when used properly is the single most effective product around. Unfortunately it does require skill to use Drione correctly and most companies these days don’t have the personnel available who know how to use it. If the current program involves nothing but liquid’s being sprayed to the baseboards, there is no way you’ll ever get control. Roaches have proven time and time again they’ll simply move to a region or area which isn’t being sprayed. In other words, baseboards are amongst the least likely places that need to be treated. Again, you’ll either have to get them to change their service techniques or supplement the routine with some different products applied in different areas to get the results you want. In most cases the ORTHENE WP is an excellent residual to be applied and when mixed with some GENTROL, will provide long lasting residual that can wear down any cockroach population.

In summary, cockroach problems in restaurants and other food prep areas can be a challenge to control. If you have a problem and the service company doing the work isn’t skilled enough to deal with the problem, chances are it will continue on and on. For this kind of situation, either a change of company or a change in service will be needed to reign in the problem. The good news is it can be accomplished. If you have further questions or concerns, give us a call on our toll free 1-800-877-7290 and one of our tech reps should be able to assist.

I have cats and a dog and want to use the safest treatment for an ongoing roach problem. I live in an apartment and I don’t think they’re spraying much of anything when they come around. I was looking at your maxforce and other gel bait but what if one of my animals ate some?

Baiting for roaches is one of the safest ways to treat so you are on the right path to solving your problem. The fact is that most all insect baits use active ingredients which have little to no impact on mammals even if your pet was to eat some! That’s right, even if they eat some. This doesn’t mean you should feed the bait to them but if you have it out the normal placements, which are supposed to be real small as explained in our ROACH CONTROL ARTICLE, there just isn’t anything being placed out that could cause a problem for most all pets or even people that might accidentally eat some.

Additionally, bait placements can be made in hard to reach places where only roaches can get to compared with the sprays which must be out in the open and therefore be more likely to come in contact with non-target animals. Cupboards, behind appliances, up high behind furniture and other objects are great places for roach bait placements like MAXFORCE GEL and ADVION GEL. Spraying some of the AVERT GEL into small voids where roaches are suspected of nesting is almost always somewhere the average pet cannot access so again, there should be little or no bait out in the open for them to find when the treatment is done properly.

In summary, baiting for roaches is one of the best ways to go about treating an ongoing roach infestation. We always prefer our customers go this route so I think you were thinking in the right direction.
